Do Men Reject Women Solely Based On Age

The common wisdom, propagated primarily by women of a certain age, is that the reason why men are unwilling to date them is solely because of their age. It could be because they're a couple of years older than the guys or because they've crossed some unspoken line in the ageism sand above which they are no longer deemed desirable. Whatever the case, they are confident that the only thing stopping that guy from asking them out is a single digit on their Driver's License. Well, here's a truth that is going to rock your world. While there are certainly those men who will discriminate based on age, "the overwhelming majority will not refrain from asking you out on a date solely based on your age." In other words, if a guy meets you at a party or sees your photo online and thinks you're hot, he will want to go out with you regardless of your age. What happens after a first date is up to you and him (and beyond the scope of this post). But if a guy is interested, practically nothing (including age) is going to stop him from pursuing you. So if you're convinced that it's your age that is the factor stopping guys from asking you out, you might want to think again and open your mind to the possibility that there might be something else about you or that you're doing that's keeping the men away. It's not your age. But what about the issue discussed by my friend Heather Robinson in her Jewish Week article Boxed in by Online Dating, where she implies that most men don't search for women older than themselves on online dating sites? Assuming for the moment that the assertion that most men won't search for older women is true, I think that it applies for the most part to huge dating sites with hundreds of thousands of profiles to sort through. With those overwhelming numbers users have to be more narrow in their search criteria to be able to navigate through the hordes of results. But on a smaller and more manageable site like Jzoog, where you can actually focus on individual profiles without getting overwhelmed, both men and women are more likely to broaden their search criteria to see more results. Guys are much more likely to raise their upper age search limits to widen their "net" and get more quality profiles to view. Yes, in this case, smaller is better! Bottom line: Ladies, don't get too hung up on how your age might be keeping you single. If a man is interested, he won't let anything stop him from pursuing you.
